It is with some sadness that I must advise of the closing of The Gordon Smith Company as an independent adjusting contractor. Over the years, it has been observed that the insurance industry has changed its direction in reaction to the pressures of court decisions, legislative actions and a continuing deterioration of public understanding of the role of insurance and its costs. While I have always been willing to adapt to the changes which have occurred and inevitably will occur in the industry, I choose not to restructure my company to fit the changing environment at this time. Therefore, although I and much of my staff will continue working in the insurance claim management business, we will be working within other venues. For all who have supported us in the past, thank you. It is not easy to give up a life time of contacts. You will all be missed. For those independents starting out on their adventures and for those continuing in the business, I wish you successful and prosperous careers in the independent adjusting business.
